Milestone Cake Smash Session

Celebrating your sweet babies first birthday is a special occasion, filled with love…and sugar!! Cake smash milestone sessions are adorable photoshoots and can be use to create memorable first birthday invitations or simply as a keepsake to cherish those precious memories as your child grows up. Capturing those sweet moments of your little one digging into the cake will result in memorable photographs. The joy and curiosity on their face as they interact with the cake will make for heartwarming and candid images that you can cherish for years to come.

Before starting the beautiful mess, I love to incorporate family photos. This adds a meaningful touch to the session and these images can complement beautifully with the cake smash session to tell more of a complete story. From pregnancy, to newborn, to first birthday, each stage captures a unique chapter in your journey, and I'm so excited to be cheering you on!!

I suggest clients bring their own cake because of allergies and suggest a pastel or a light colored frosting. Dark colored frosting can be hard to wash off after the session, and avoid red or brown frosting. I suggest using a buttercream frosting or a frosting that's less sweet, as overly sweet frosting can shock our baby. Avoid using fondant, that way they are able to really dig into it.

Using props and decorations

I like to use minimal props and simple decorations that way the focus is on baby and the precious reaction during the cake smash session. This way, the genuine emotions and expressions of your child will be the highlight of the images.

I can customize the decorations for the cake smash session to match the theme of the first birthday party, this creates a cohesive and visually appealing connection between the session and the upcoming celebration. This touch add a extra layer of personalization to both the session and the party, making the overall experience more special. The bee banner and cake topper (pictured below) are just some of the décor I have made to add that personal touch to the session. In my prop and decoration collection I have a adorable rocking chair, lace cloths, letter board, garland, light color wood crate and white crates, wood round the cake will sit on, and I'm always looking to add to my collection.

Tips

Tip 1: Many families prefer to schedule the cake smash session around 11 months old.

Tip 2: I recommend having a neutral outfit planned to match the theme. I suggest taking baby's shoes off during the cake smashing, I love to see those little toes!

Tip 3: I wait until last minute to present the cake; prior to the cake smash we can capture family photos before things get too messy.

Tip 4: I recommend bring wipes, water bottles, going home outfit, baby's favorite snack, and garbage bags to clean up baby before heading home.

Tip 5: Publix provides a free smash cake with any order from the bakery to my knowledge and is customizable to match the theme.

Lets tell your story! After all, life is better when you're covered in cake!
